When it is & How to join us We intend to this at some point during the last week in August of 2005. We are deliberately not being specific about the date in advance at the moment at the request of TFL. If you you wish to participate (whether you have already spoken to me or not) I need an official email from you, so that I log you and work out how many people are going to do this.
I will tell you what date we are planning to do this and if you can make it then you're in! You will then need to get yourself sponsored. Official sponsor forms have been created, or we recommend that you do it online at www.justgiving.com/lbr/ as many other people have already done. Anyone is welcome to take part. I have already had people interested from overseas who say that they will fly in for a couple of days to London to do this. This is brilliant. Thank you. You are more than welcome in our fantastic capital city. Which Route?
Tube maps are available from the TFL website here, or there is a complete 'Connections' map showing all rail services here. Everyone starts together to generate a feeling of camaraderie and solidarity, but then because it would too hard to get everyone to stick together, we recommend that people split up into teams/groups and take their own routes throughout the day. There is now a Beginners Guide of how to get round the London Underground for people doing this for the first time. Go have a look, and also now a 'what we advise you to do on the day' guide, as well which you should read. We are encouraging everyone to finish at Upminster, because Amersham-start and Upminister-finish is a tried and tested method that will ensure the maximum potential for everyone to complete the whole system. You are of course welcome to finish anywhere that you like, but it would be nice if we could all congregate again at the end of the day at Upminster - we'll probably all be on the same last few trains in on the night anyway. A page is currently being created for 'how to get home', and plans are afoot for lifts and possibly a minibus to ferry people to where they've got to go - watch this space. At the start - the first couple of hours is quite 'set' anyway in the route that you take, and it's only as we head into Zone1 down the Bakerloo line that people will start to split off into teams and go their own separate ways. A meet up on the day after in the evening (quite likely to be a pub in central London - but again, watch this space) is on the cards, so that everyone can tell their anecdotes of the day to each other - also, people that can't make the actual day due to previous commitments want to come down to that anyway to congregate with the others. |
